Aim
Our aim is to provide "genuinely affordable" housing in perpetuity for people who live, have lived or work in the parish of Horsted Keynes
About us
Start up
The Horsted Keynes Community Land Trust (CLT) Feasibility Group was set up in June 2018 with a view to providing some genuinely affordable housing for local people in the parish.
Community Engagement
In November 2018 we held two community engagement events which were well attended and people were generally very supportive of this initiative.
Housing Need Survey
In April 2019 we commissioned Action in rural Sussex (AIRS) to carry out a detailed Housing Needs Survey in the parish. Full and summary versions of their report on the findings of this survey are available (see Documents).
Local Need
The results of the survey suggest the need, initially, for a small community-led housing scheme of approximately 6-9 dwellings.
Potential Sites
As yet, we have not identified a site for our proposed development but we are currently looking at a number of potential opportunities. We will provide further details on this as soon as possible. If you are a landowner or know someone who has a plot of land that they may be willing to make available please get in touch (see Contact Us).
National CLT Network
We have joined the National CLT Network and further information can be found on their website about CLT’s and community-led housing schemes (see Further Info)
Legal Status
We are now in the process of formalising our legal status by setting up a Community Benefit Society (with exempt charity status). Four members have agreed to be on the initial board of trustees (see The Team) and we anticipate co-opting additional board members shortly.
Membership
Once incorporated we anticipate launching our membership scheme to the community in the first quarter of 2020.

November 28, 2023An affordable, healthy home is the foundation for a decent life. But CPRE's new report shows that rural communities in England are facing an existential threat from an acute and overlooked shortage of genuinely affordable housing. You might be forgiven for thinking that we had given up on our mission to provide some genuinely affordable housing in Horsted Keynes for those with a close connection to the village, i.e. who lived here, who have close relatives that live here, or who work here. It has been a long time since we...April 18, 2021Apologies to everyone who has been looking out for the HKCLT survey that was mentioned previously. We have delayed the survey and the incorporation of the CLT until later in the year. There has been a huge amount of planning activity in the village this year so we felt you might want to draw...Document Library
