You may have heard reports of developers gaining planning permission for housing developments with the promise to deliver a set number of affordable homes. Then, by the time they get to site, the promise has been broken and the affordable homes never get built.
We are determined to make sure that affordable homes do get built in Horsted Keynes; that they remain affordable in perpetuity; and that they are allocated to people with a local connection to our village. The surest way to do that is for the community to own the freehold of the properties and that is exactly what we are planning to do!
Over the last few years we have been engaging with the landowner’s agent and developer for the Police House Field site, which was recommended for planning approval earlier this year.
We have also teamed up with a Registered Provider for affordable housing. They have recently received very encouraging news that they are the preferred bidder, with HKCLT, to acquire the affordable homes within that development.
Now that this is a very real opportunity, we have incorporated as a Community Benefit Society and we would like you to support us by becoming a member. We are also looking for a couple of additional members to join us on the Board.
If you are interested and would like to find out more, please come along to our launch event.
